Bernardo, Dela Cruz win gold, silver at the International Math Olympiad

Representing the Philippines, Ateneo Junior High School students Jimbo Bernardo of La Storta/8-Del Castillo and Brian dela Cruz of La Storta/9-Fausti each won a medal at the 13th International Mathematics Contest (IMC) which was held from August 4-7, 2017 in Singapore. Jimbo won a gold medal while Brian won a silver medal. 

According to news reports, the Philippines once again topped the IMC with a haul of 245 medals (33 golds, 66 silvers, 146 bronzes) and 111 merit awards. China placed second with 174 medals while Thailand placed third with 108 medals.

The other countries which participated in the IMC were Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Hong Kong, Iran, South Korea, Australia, and India.  The IMC is an international competition for elementary and high school students.

At the 12th International Mathematics Competition (IMC) that was held in Singapore in 2016, Jimbo and Brian each won a bronze medal for the Philippines, which emerged as the most bemedalled country at the competition.
