Dion Ong wins silver for PH at Math Olympiad held in China

Dion Stephan Ong poses with his silver medal from the CSMO Representing the Philippines, Ateneo Junior High School student Dion Stephan Ong of Cardoner/10-Canisius won a silver medal in the 14th China Southeast Math Olympiad (CSMO) last July 31, 2017. The CSMO was held in the First High School of Yushan County in Jiangxi Province, China from July 28 to August 2, 2017. Dion was one of the seven delegates from the Philippines. He reports that the majority of the participants came from China’s top secondary schools, plus some invited territories/countries which included Hongkong, Macau, Thailand, and  the Philippines.

 
The contest itself was held on July 30 and July 31. Each day, contestants had to solve four problems within four hours, from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. The CSMO is a math competition with a proof-based format similar to the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO).
