Jimbo Bernardo & Dion Ong are AMC high distinction awardees
Two Ateneo Junior High School mathletes, Jimbo Bernardo (La Storta/7-Bobola) and Dion Ong (Cardoner/9-Geronimo), both scored between the 98 and 99.7 percentile in the recent Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC). As such, they will each receive a certificate of High Distinction at the AMC Awards Ceremony on Oct. 28, 2016.
According to Jimbo, the AMC is like an exam, where the competitors/participants are given 75 minutes to answer 30 written questions.
Jimbo and Dion have both been representing the Philippines in prestigious international mathematics since they were in the Ateneo Grade School. Just last July, Jimbo won a bronze medal in the 2016 International Mathematics Competition (IMC) held in Singapore. In June, Dion won a bronze medal in the 2016 Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad held in Romania.
The AMC is one of the world’s largest school-based math competitions, counting more than 14 million entries since 1978. The 2017 AMC will take place on 27 July 2017.
