Jian Bautista helps PH win gold in Brunei fencing tournament

Representing the Philippines, Ateneo Junior High School student Jian Bautista of Cardoner/10-Pignatelli and three other athletes from UST won the gold medal in the Men's Team Épée event of the Brunei Open Fencing Championship last January 14, 2017. Jian is the youngest member of the Philippines’ men’s épée team, whose other members are fencers from UST senior high school and UST college. For their achievement, the Philippine men’s épée team was even featured in the January 17, 2017 issue of The Philippine Star. They were also reportedly featured on Brunei’s tv news on the night of January 16.
 
Jian is a member of the Ateneo boys’ fencing team which will compete at the UAAP Season 79 Fencing Championship in February, 2017. Last year, at the UAAP 78 games, Jian and his teammates won a bronze medal in the team épée event held in the afternoon of February 12, 2016.
