Nio Tria bags two titles in Olivarez Tennis Cup
Ateneo de Manila Junior High School student Antonio “Nio” Tria of (Cardoner) 9-Maunoir won two titles at the conclusion of the recent 7th Olivarez Cup-Palawan Pawnshop Tennis Open. He emerged as champion of the14U boys singles division and champion of the 14U boys doubles division, sharing honors with partner Matthew Garcia of Montessori Alabang.
Nio estimates that more than 50 of the best tennis players from all over the Philippines competed in the 14U boys singles competition.
Thus far in 2016, Nio has won five tennis titles here and abroad. Prior to the two trophies he bagged at the Olivarez Cup, Nio won the 14U boys singles competition of the 1st PhilTA Presidents Cup last July 10. Last February, he was 14U boys singles champion of the 5th Anthony Tordesillas Memorial National Age Group Tournament. Last March 26, Nio and partner Michael Eala Jr. emerged as boys doubles champions of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Asia 14 & under Development Championships (division 1) held in Vietnam.
Despite the time-consuming demands placed on him as an Ateneo de Manila student-athlete, Nio has been a consistent honor student since his grade school days. He is also a student in all four special Grade 9 “pull-out” classes in English, Filipino, Math and Science.
The Olivarez Cup was held from August 4 to 21, 2016 at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque City.
