CONTEMPLATIO:

CONTEMPLATIO is a simplified, interactive and artistic representation of the Spiritual Exercises. It is not meant to replace the actual experience of going through the Spiritual Exercises but is an invitation to deeper knowledge of and interest in St Ignatius of Loyola and his spirituality. The activities here are not the same as in an actual retreat; however, they are to give an artistic glimpse of the movements experienced by those who go through the SpEx.

This year’s Contemplatio features different Ignatian ways of prayer to highlight and enhance the experiences of each week of the Spiritual Exercises.  While in an actual Ignatian retreat, these prayers may be used more than once and not necessarily in the manner and sequence provided here.  The aim of having them in this year’s Contemplatio is to show the availability of these prayer forms to help us deepen our intimacy with God.

To experience this interactive experience of the Spiritual Exercises, kindly visit the area outside of the Church of the Gesu.

For more information on Contemplatio, kindly contact the Office for Mission and Identity (OMI) through local 4010 and/or omi@ateneo.edu.  Thank you!

Lenten Reflections in Ateneo is Home:

Starting February 29, reflections of different members of our community on the readings of the day have been uploaded daily in the website of Ateneo is Home.  The desire is that this simple effort will serve as an invitation to make this season of Lent more meaningful for us.  To read the reflections, kindly go to www.ateneo.edu/ateneoishome

For more information on this, kindly contact the Office for Mission and Identity (OMI) through local 4010 and/or omi@ateneo.edu. Thank you!

ATENEO COMES OUT WITH AN ALUMNI MAGAZINE

We are happy to launch this maiden issue of Fabilioh! This bi-annual alumni magazine features Ateneo news, our alumni-in-memoriam, exemplary Ateneans working in the peripheries, and reflections on significant national events, among others.

Fabilioh! is a cheer unique to Ateneans. Hardly having any significance to the outsider, Fabilioh! is close to our hearts. Fabilioh! is filled with meaning. It sums up the life and the passionate desires of every Atenean soul—desires that put together, create the true Ateneo culture and community of excellence for service.

Fabilioh! aims to rekindle our fond memories of our alma mater and renew ourselves to be men and women-for-others in our homes and communities.

The Gift of Giving Back

To our Alumni and Friends:

We would like to thank everyone who has given their support for the Jesuit apostolates of the Philippine Province.

Due to popular demand, we continue to provide as tokens the San Jose Dormido resin statues crafted by the nationally-acclaimed artist, Mr. Paloy Cagayat of Paete, with a Stampita of Pope Francis for a minimum donation of Php5,000.00

“Rest is necessary for our minds and bodies, and often so difficult to achieve. But it is essential, so that we can hear God’s voice and understand what he asks of us…”

“ Make time each day for prayer. Praying is resting with God. And do not forget: Families that pray together, remain together...”

From the speech of  Pope Francis during a meeting with families at the Mall of Asia arena in Manila, Philippines, Friday, January 16, 2015

This Way. The Ateneo Way. by Rick Olivares

This isn’t a definitive history of the Ateneo. Not by a long shot. However… this is the story of generations. Of men and women for others. This is a story of great men. Of artisans. Captains of the industry. Of molders of me and women. Of nation builders. All doing it the Ateneo Way. This is a story of the rise and fall and eventual resurrection of a great school and how disaster and war failed to douse the fires of learning and achievement.

This is a story of a great order -- God’s soldiers -- and their adventures once they crossed oceans and went down from the Hill.

This is a story of building a nation. Of a vastly different time under two powers. Of blood shed in the cause of liberty and of noble aspirations. Of milestones and landmarks. Of growing up. Of the intricacies of math and science. Of lessons in the classroom and the plays of the Bard that are both timeless and limitless.

This is why when you walk the tree-lined roads in the late afternoons you think of Frost’s “The Road Not Taken” and you’re glad that you took the road to Padre Faura that eventually led to Loyola Heights.

This is a book that should be read with the whole family. With father and son and daughter. Even grandchildren. This is why you feel proud to literally walk in your father’s footsteps through those hallowed corridors where others tread on. This is a book where every picture – old but lovingly and patiently restored – could be you or me. Where every written word offers golden nuggets of our story, his story, and your story.

This isn’t a definitive history of the Ateneo. Not by a long shot.

This is a book of why you went to the Ateneo. And why your children will too.

THE PASCHAL MYSTERY AND DIVINE COMPASSION

The Glory of the Father placarded; Beauty… a billion times told lovelier!

This book is an invitation to prayerful reflection during Holy Week on what Jesus, as reported in John’s gospel, intended to communicate to his followers then and now, when he spoke of the hour of his being lifted up as the moment when the Son of Man–and the Father as well—is to be “glorified”. Is the Cross itself some kind of “universal notice” then to be “lifted up”? A demonstration of sorts? Is Christ’s utter humiliation at the same time a glorification? Is the Cross the Father’s glorification too–a self-revelation really and a “universal notice” of infinite Love? Is that what it means then, that the Son on the Cross reveals–or maybe more aptly, placards—the very inner being of the Father because “anyone who sees me sees the Father”? What this book offers are a few thoughts and images that, put together one way or another, could evoke answers to these questions from the farthest corners of your hearts, and even perhaps from the depths of what a priest-friend once called an “Abba experience” in the solitude and silence of a retreat.
