Ateneo Law Hosts Jaime V. Ongpin Annual Memorial Lecture

On October 23, at the Veritas room of the Ateneo Law School’s Teehankee Hall, Justice Conchita Claudio Carpio-Morales delivered the Eighteenth Jaime V. Ongpin Annual Memorial Lecture with a presentation entitled “The Continuing Struggle Against Corruption in the Philippines.”
 
Drawing from her deep experience dealing with issues of corruption including as Associate Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court (2002-2011) and Ombudsman (2011-2018), Justice Carpio-Morales examined root causes of corruption as well as approaches with handling issues relating to this societal evil.  An animated open forum ensued with Justice Morales providing further interesting insights.

The lecture was well attended by a diverse audience that included law students, journalists, academics, officials of the National Museum and other attendees from government and the private sector.  Fr. Jett Villarin was also present and led the Invocation. The Closing Remarks were delivered by Mrs. Maribel Ongpin.  Dean Joey Hofileña provided the Welcome and Opening Remarks and introduced the speaker.

Ateneo Law School has regularly served as the venue for the Jaime V. Ongpin Annual Memorial Lectures.  Since 2001 and on a yearly basis, eminent personalities in both the private and public sectors have been selected to deliver allocutions and disquisitions on significant topics of the day.
