In furtherance of its mandate to provide quality legal assistance to indigent clients, the Ateneo Legal Services Center formalized a partnership with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on May 24, 2016.
The simple MOA signing was held at the Ateneo Law School Faculty Conference Room. The POEA was represented by its Administrator, Hans Leo J. Cacdac, an alumnus of the Ateneo Law School (ALS), while the ALSC was represented by its Director, Axel Rupert M. Cruz. Witnessing the event were ALS Dean Sedfrey M. Candelaria, POEA’s Deputy Administrator Jesus Gabriel C. Domingo (Licensing and Adjudication), Atty. Celso J. Hernandez, Jr. (Director II, Employment Regulation Branch), Ms. Moira Litongan Idiesca, and ALSC Resident Attorneys Takahiro Kenjie Aman and Maria Patricia Cervantes-Poco.
The MOA covers a referral process between the POEA and the ALSC, to cover giving legal assistance to indigent overseas Filipino workers; capacity enhancement seminars on illegal recruitment and trafficking; potential internship opportunities with the POEA for ALS students; and a joint implementation and monitoring committee.
The event was capped with the turnover of copies of a trainer’s handbook and informational posters on the Campaign against Illegal Recruitment, Trafficking in Persons and Irregular Migration to the ALSC.
