SC Justice Caguioa stresses the importance of values learned in ALS

September 20, 2019

To start off the celebration of Philippine National Law Week, a forum with Supreme Court Justice Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguioa was held last 16 September 2019 at the Ateneo Law School.  It was a simultaneous commemoration of the 80th year since the Ateneo Law School, in 1939, produced its first crop of graduates led by its class valedictorian, Eduardo P. Caguioa, Justice Caguioa’s father.

Having self-styled the forum as “Ben Talks,” Justice Caguioa spoke about his own experiences in the law school, his work experiences in the private sector and the government. He spoke inspiringly  on what the legal profession is and should be and stressed the importance of values learned in the Ateneo.

The audience, composed mostly of first year law students, had the opportunity to ask Justice Caguioa questions which resulted in insightful, at times animated, discussions. It was a unique opportunity for the students to have heard, seen and encountered the human being behind the Supreme Court decisions they study for their classes.

Justice Caguioa was appointed to the Supreme Court on January 22, 2016. He acquired his Bachelor of Laws from the Ateneo Law School in 1985 .
