A Study on the Implications of Ratifying the Basel Ban Amendment in the Philippines

The Basel Ban Amendment remains a landmark international instrument that promotes the principle of environmental justice – no people based on their race, ideology, or economic status in life, should bear the disproportionate portion of pollution caused by others. The lessons of Love Canal in the United States, Koko Beach in Nigeria and the many “classic” toxic waste-dumping cases of the early ‘80s bear the collective global scar that gave rise to this instrument.
