Day by Day
This prayer was introduced to me as a song when as a grade school student of Ateneo, I'd sing its lyrics from the top of my lungs. In college, two people I looked up to started their classes with this prayer. By then, it wasn't really that special for me. But upon waking up one day after college, I happened to ask myself this: "What gets you up in the morning?" And this prayer came to my mind.
Personally, I am not a fan of routine days. I like shaking things up a bit just to keep things interesting. However, if there is one constant I have, it would be how I start my days.
Having to live a crazy, uncertain and sometimes unforgiving world can be tough, but finding God in all things around me, which this prayer invites me to, allows me to see things in perspective. It reminds me that there are things that are above and beyond me and that there is Someone out there waiting for me at the end of this journey.
This is why I pray, to remind myself that day by day, is a step closer to Him by loving Him more dearly, seeing Him around me more clearly, and following the way He has set for me more nearly.
