Photo Pray: Stone
April 03, 2017

In today's gospel (Jn 8:1-11), the Pharisees, in their attempt to have a reason to file charges against Jesus, test Him through the case of a woman caught in adultery. In the ancient Law of Moses, an adulteress must be stoned to death while in the Roman Law, no one shall be put to death for moral violations. If Jesus would say that the woman must not be stoned, they could charge Him for deviating from the Law of Moses. On the other hand, if He would say the woman must be stoned, they could charge Him against the Roman Law. Jesus, knowing this scheme that the Pharisees would find fault with Him whatever His reply would be, answers with the above statement. With that the Pharisees left Him.
