Navarro and Dugan shine in SINGA global math tilt

Magnus Navarro Miggy Dugan Representing the Philippines, AGS mathletes Magnus Navarro (5-Ati) and Miggy Dugan (6-Malacañang) both won medals for the country in the Singapore Math Team Global Competition (SINGA). Navarro received a silver medal for the Grade 5 Individual Round (Philippine Rank = 1; Global Rank = 5) and a gold medal for the Intermediate Division Team Round (Team Rank = 1). He also returned home with a trophy for finishing the competition as the Overall Runner-Up in the Intermediate Division. Dugan bagged a silver medal for the Grade 6 Individual Round (Philippine Rank = 2; Global Rank = 6) and a bronze medal for the Intermediate Division Team Round (Team Rank = 11). Navarro and Dugan are among the eight Philippine medal awardees in the Individual Round of the competition and among the six Philippine medal awardees in the Intermediate Division Team Round.

Per web reports, SINGA is a unique Math Competition which focuses on teamwork, collaboration, and mutual support among the three members of each team. It involves the use of outstanding math skills to allow each member to work independently through the Individual Round. It also teaches the contestants to allocate problem-solving duties based on each one’s strengths and also allows them to plan strategically in accomplishing problem sets within a given time frame to get through the Team Round.

SINGA was held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from November 22 – 26, 2019.
