Zion Uy wins coveted ‘Prize’ award for PH at Australia Math competition

Representing the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila Grade School mathletes Zion Uy (6-Campion), Darren Uy (6-Xavier), Alphan Lomibao (6-Xavier), and Rohan Herrera (6-Xavier) were among those who harvested awards at the 2020 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), which was held online on October 3, 2020. Leading the Ateneo awardees was Zion, who was one of only eight Filipinos to win the coveted Prize award. Alphan and Darren won the Distinction award, while Rohan received the Credit award. Per web reports, Filipino math wizards received 143 Distinction and 289 Credit awards from this year’s AMC.

The AMC is an engaging 30-problem contest that demonstrates the importance and relevance of mathematics in students’ everyday lives, with problems that are designed by Australia’s leading educators and academics each year. It is open to students in years 3 to 12 from all over the globe, and attracts more than 250,000 participants annually.
