Students from the Ateneo de Manila University won the 12th Local Finals of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Research Challenge held last February 13, 2020 at the Philippine Stock Exchange Auditorium in Ortigas, Pasig.
Ateneo’s Research Challenge team, called Athena Investment Research, is composed of Management Engineering seniors Lucia Carmen Lorenzo (Team Captain), Tiffany Erin Lao, Mayumi Ysabel Mariano, and Maxine Rianna Yee and Applied Mathematics, major in Mathematical Finance supersenior Lianna Zion Lofranco. They were mentored by faculty adviser Alfonso Miguel Sevidal (BS ME ’17) from the Finance and Accounting Department and industry mentor Fernandina Ko (BSM AMF ‘16) from TrustingSocial.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge (IRC) is a global investment research competition that provides students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. For this year’s local IRC, participants were asked to write an initiation report for the stock of Century Pacific Food, Inc. (CNPF). The top four teams with the highest grades for the written report advanced to the local finals, where they gave a ten-minute presentation to a panel of judges, followed by a ten-minute question-and-answer portion.
