Admissions


 

 Eligibility Requirements

All applicants to the graduate program students in mathematics must satisfy the admission requirements specified by the Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs. 

Applicants to the MS Mathematics program must have:

  1. A bachelor’s degree (civil degree);
  2. An undergraduate general average of 85% or B;
  3. A minimum of 18 undergraduate units or its equivalent in mathematics;
  4. Acceptable scores in the entrance tests administered by the Fr. Jaime Bulatao, S.J. Center for Psychology Services (Bulatao Center);
  5. A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 for a paper-based test, 213 for a computer-based test, or 80 for an Internet-based test (International applicants only).

Applicants to the M/MS Mathematics Education programs must have:

  1. Finished a baccalaureate degree whose major of study is Mathematics or allied courses, such as Physics, Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Education (subject to the evaluation of the department);
  2. Had a school teaching experience of at least 1 year
  3. Acceptable scores in the entrance tests administered by the Fr. Jaime Bulatao, S.J. Center for Psychology Services (Bulatao Center);
  4. A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 for a paper-based test, 213 for a computer-based test, or 80 for an Internet-based test (International applicants only).
  • If the student’s verbal score in the Admission Test falls below a department-specified threshold, s/he will be required to take 6 units of non-credit English Proficiency courses (ENGL 200 and ENGL 226).

Applicants to the PhD Mathematics must have:

  1. A bachelor’s degree (civil degree);
  2. A master’s degree (civil degree) in Mathematics or any related field (subject to the evaluation and approval of the department);
  3. Acceptable scores in the entrance tests administered by the Fr. Jaime Bulatao, S.J. Center for Psychology Services (Bulatao Center);
  4. A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 for a paper-based test, 213 for a computer-based test, or 80 for an Internet-based test (International applicants only).

Applicants to the PhD Mathematics Education program must have:

  1. Finished a master’s degree in any of the following fields: mathematics education, education, mathematics, psychology, or socio-anthropology;
  2. Acceptable scores in the entrance tests administered by the Fr. Jaime Bulatao, S.J. Center for Psychology Services (Bulatao Center);
  3. A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 for a paper-based test, 213 for a computer-based test, or 80 for an Internet-based test (International applicants only).
  • Applicants to this program should be willing to take the prerequisite courses as deemed necessary by the PhD program director. 
  • It is preferable that applicants to this program have a minimum teaching experience totaling two (2) years.
  • If the student’s verbal score in the Admission Test falls below a department-specified threshold, s/he will be required to take 6 units of non-credit English Proficiency courses (ENGL 200 and ENGL 226).
