Ateneo season 76 UAAP Judo Champions

The Blue and Junior Judokas dominated the UAAP Judo Championship last weekend, September 28 and 29 in the Blue Eagle Gym of Ateneo de Manila University. The Ateneo Lady Judokas finally made it back to podium finish after seven years.
Under the coaches Ali Sulit, Robert Divina, Katherine Duque and Gilbert Ramirez, the Ateneo team made history.

The Ateneo Junior Judo team reclaimed their championship after losing the title to UST last season. Winning seven gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals, the junior judokas garnered a total of 91 points, the highest point tally in the history of juniors judo championship. Third year Rean Gonzales was named Rookie of the year and Most Valuable Player.

· -66kg: Rean Gonzales (3D)- GOLD; Nico Clemente (3D)- SILVER
· -73kg: Mike Isidro (4H)- GOLD; Manolo Tan (3C)- BRONZE
· -81kg: Vince David (4C)- GOLD; Miggy Arayata (4H)- SILVER
· -90kg: Mon Tuazon (4E)- GOLD; Giolo Cadhit (3N)-SILVER
· -100kg: James Reyes (4H)- GOLD; Yin Lee (2E)- BRONZE
· +100kg: Raf Cadiente (4G)- GOLD

The Blue Judokas led by Captain Matthew Jao dethroned UST after three years of reign. Jao and fellow senior Anjo Gumila won gold in their respective categories. Jao was named this season’s MVP. First year Raphael Sapi was named Rookie of the Year. Total medal tally of the Blue Judokas is 47.
UP came in second place with 35 points followed by DLSU with 32 points.

· -73 kg: Nash Bangui- SILVER; Raphael Sapi- BRONZE
· -81 kg Monch Santiago- BRONZE; Alfred Querubin- BRONZE
· -90 kg Anjo Gumla- GOLD; Martel Agustin- BRONZE
· -100 Lorenzo Vincencio- SILVER; Boris Jao- BRONZE
· +100 Matthew Jao- GOLD

Though short in players, the Lady Judokas made a historic podium finish last weekend. The Lady Judokas were far second to Lady Archers with 29 points. UE also had 29 points but settled for third place due to inferior quotient.
Captain Samantha Dela Costa won against veteran player Monica Pineda of UE with a stunning ippon. Fellow senior player Bella Nepomuceno dominated her weight division winning gold for the team.
