Batang Gilas, the Philippine national youth basketball team, completed a 6-0 sweep of the SEABA Under-18 tournament after routing Thailand, 86-49, in the championship game held last 28 April 2016 in Medan, Indonesia. Per Wikipedia, the Philippines' victory in the 2016 SEABA U-18 is a five-peat following victories in 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Two members of the current Batang Gilas roster are recent graduates of the Ateneo de Manila High School: team captain Jolo Mendoza, who scored 8 points in the final, and Gian Mamuyac, who contributed 14 points in the final.

InterAksyon.com reported that the final was PH’s second win against Thailand in the tournament as it won the eliminations game with a 56-point blowout the Thais, 101-45. The other teams which Batang Gilas won against in the round robin eliminations were  Thailand (101-45) on April 23, Laos (133-52) on April 24, Malaysia (87-68) on April 25, Singapore (87-52) on April 26, and Indonesia (113-73) on April 27.

The Philippines, Thailand and third-placer Indonesia have qualified for the 2016 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship to be held in Iran this July.
