AGS artists Hernandez, Kabatay, and Evangelista win Honorable Mention in Mexico’s Drawing Contest

Ateneo de Manila Grade School artists Matthan Hernandez (6-Gonzaga), Kite Kabatay (5-Manobo) and Djosef Evangelista (4-Marikudo) both won the Honorable Mention award in the Asia and Oceania category of the La Independencia de Mexico XXV Children’s Drawing Contest. Organized by the government of Mexico, the competition was open to girls and boys from all over the world between the ages of 6 and 14 years old. Participants were “…invited to demonstrate their artistic skills and imagination by drawing or painting aspects, moments, individuals, and historical scenes of Mexico’s independence,” and had until August 15, 2021 to submit their entries.  

 
A jury selected the top 12 winners from three age groups:Category 1, 6 to 8 year-olds; Category 2, 9 to 11 year-olds; and Category 3, 12 to 14 year-olds. The 28 honorable mention awardees were chosen by means of electronic votes cast on the Facebook page of Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior (IME), with four awardees each coming from Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East, Asia and Oceania, Europe, Mexico, United States (West), and United States (East) and Canada. The 40 selected artworks will form part of a traveling exhibition that will be inaugurated in Mexico City and travel around the world.
