Zion Uy ranked #1 globally at HK Math Olympiad's heat round

Recent Ateneo de Manila Grade School graduates Zion Uy, Darren Uy, Magnus Navarro and Sieggy Cajucom, along with current grade 2 mathlete Miguel Tagarda (2-Yakal), won medal awards in the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO) Philippines Heat Round, which was held online on May 23, 2021. Leading the awardees was Zion Uy, who won a gold award and was named champion of the primary 6 division thanks to his global rank of #1. Also garnering gold was Darren Uy, who was ranked #62 globally in the primary 6 division. Taking silver and bronze awards, respectively, in the primary 6 division were Magnus Navarro and Sieggy Cajucom. Last but not least, Miguel Tagarda bagged a bronze award in the primary 1 division.

The HKIMO is an annual international Olympiad that aims to create a platform for math enthusiasts from around the world to come together for an educational and cultural exchange. Among the regions/countries that participated in the 2021 HKIMO Heat Round were Bulgaria, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.
