Ateneo Molecular Pathology Laboratory (AMPLify) (memo from SOSE Dean, 30 Mar 2021)

March 30, 2021

To the Ateneo Community,

We are pleased to announce that the Ateneo Molecular Pathology Laboratory  (AMPLify) has been granted a License to Operate (LTO) by the DOH Health Facilities and Services Regulatory Bureau effective March 23, 2021. It is a laboratory with Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) containment designed in accordance with the provisions of the World Health Organization (WHO). The facility is currently designed for the detection of SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID 19, using real time RT-PCR. This testing facility serves (a) as Ateneo’s response to the government’s call for more diagnostic facilities that can help in its fight against the pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 and all other infectious diseases; (b) as the university’s contribution to the improvement of healthcare and diagnostics in the country through research and training; and (c) as venue for the university’s outreach programs to benefit the poor and marginalized sectors of society.

The AMPLify lab is headed by Dr. Gregorio Cortez (Lab Director) and Mr. Don Ashley Malabana (Operations Manager) and is under the general management and supervision of the Ateneo Research Institute of Science and Engineering (ARISE) of the School of Science and Engineering (SOSE).

We thank the numerous offices and individuals of the Ateneo de Manila that provided financial and logistical assistance from conceptualization to actual implementation of the AMPLify Lab. We also thank the Temasek Foundation for the generous donation of equipment and testing materials and other external institutions and government agencies for their support.

We are looking forward to serving the community – Ad majorem Dei gloriam!
