Dr. Claire Dennis S. Mapa

Dr. Dennis S. Mapa is the Undersecretary, National Statistician and Civil-Registrar General at Philippine Statistics Authority (on secondment from the University of the Philippines. Prior to his appointment at PSA, he served as the Dean of the UP School of Statistics in Diliman. He also served as an affiliate professor in economics at the UP School of Economics, and research fellow at the Social Weather Stations. He was also a research fellow at the USAID Grant Energy Policy and Development Program in 2014-2018. He was a visiting scholar at the International Centre for the Study of East Asian Development in Kitakyushu, Japan. A multi-awarded researcher, our speaker is the SEARCA Regional Professorial Chair holder for 2015 and a UP Scientist for 2018-2020. In 2008, he received the Outstanding Young Scientist Award from the National Academy of Science and Technology for his research contribution in the areas of econometric and financial time series analysis, empirical economic growth, poverty analysis, and impact evaluation. He obtained his PhD in economics at the UP School of Economics and holds a master’s degrees in statistics and economics from the same university.
