FEATURE | Teaching children about data privacy and fake news through books
21 December 2020 MANILA – Filipino online bookstore, Looking for Juan, recently released two titles aimed at educating children about data privacy and fake news: “Safe Space: A Kid’s Guide to Data Privacy” and “#YouThink: Fight Fake News.” Targeting children between 6 to 18 years old, both books were published by the Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development (CANVAS). NEWS | Privacy Group: Use of Student Data Breaks Federal Law

UNITED STATES – A program used by the Pasco Sheriff’s Office and Pasco County Schools in Florida must be modified as it is in violation of U.S. Federal Law. This is according to national digital privacy think tank, the Future of Privacy Forum. The program identifies “at-risk” students who allegedly have the predilection to commit crimes in the future. CANADA – An education scholar has warned against the risks schools expose themselves to when they use online proctoring platforms. Prof. Bonnie Stewart contends that this form of surveillance may invade the privacy and erode the trust of students towards educational institutions. NEWS | School data privacy law will give parents more control over kids' info
27 December 2020 UNITED STATES – The Illinois’ Student Online Personal Protection Act, which intends to protect student data from breaches and ransomware, is set to take effect this 2021.
